BMBF-Framework Programme “Research for Sustainable Developments” (FONA)

The funding programme “Innovation Groups for Sustainable Land Management” will be funded within the BMBF-Framework Programme “Research for Sustainable Development” (FONA).

FONA-Framework Programme

Research for Sustainable Land Management is an over-arching topic in the Framework Programme FONA and aims at the development of more sustainable and practicable solutions for regions that are faced with special challenges in the context of changes in climate, economic structure or demographics.

Research for sustainable development provides an integrated, system-oriented approach that develops innovative concepts and solutions for global challenges such as climate change, land use, water shortages, loss of biodiversity, soil degradation and shortages of raw materials. It is meant to provide bases for making decisions for future-oriented action.

To that end, the BMBF-Framework Programme “Research for Sustainable Developments” integrates the entire research process from the basic research to application. So that the research can develop its full benefit for a society with a future, transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary research concepts are worked out. The term transdisciplinary means that all relevant social groups are involved.

With the Framework Programme, the national sustainability strategy and the high-tech strategy in the area of environmental protection, resource management, and energy is consistently applied.  The goal is that Germany will maintain and expand its position as a technological leader in the areas of environmental protection and adaptation to climate change, sustainable resource management as well as innovative environmental and energy technologies.

Funding Programme

The FONA-funding programme "Innovation Groups for Sustainable Land Management" is funded in the research field "Resources and Sustainability" within the funding programme "Sustainable Land Management". The objects of research are both the necessary foundational knowledge and bases for decision making in sustainable land management as well as the conditions for implementing the results of research in practice.
